Handmade sheath knives, pocket folders, special utility knives and
kitchen cutlery will all eventually be available from the shop of Pelican
Point Trading Co. We're starting with sheath knives mostly because
that's what got the whole knife making project going in the first place.

A couple of years ago, I decided to make a knife for myself using a high
quality stainless steel blade I'd bought from an American knife making
supply outlet. I'd wanted to make knives for a long time but we've lived
on our boats since 1992 and exposing a salty old wood boat to the high
heat and steel dust necessary to convert a fairly soft chunk of steel into
a hard, sharp, sculpted blade just isn't practical. So when I found
several sources of very high quality blades, I set up a shop on Pelican
Point to turn them into my own line of hand crafted knives and sheaths.

Most of the knives you'll see here were made aboard Pelican Point
while we travel through the inside waters of Southeast Alaska during
our 2004 2005 voyage. Some have been made since our return to
Washington waters. I've spent a lot of hours working these blades,
handles and sheaths into finished knives while floating quietly in
remote anchorages throughout this wild and beautiful country and I've
loved every minute of it. Well, there have been a few frustrating
moments and a few bloody fingers, but I've enjoyed
most of it.

These knives are made one at a time. By the time I've finished, each
one has had my full attention for 6 to 8 hours and has usually cut me at
least once. Finally, each knife is hand sanded and then polished and
oiled.

Each sheath is made especially for it's knife. In fact it is made on the
knife while damp so that the finished leather sheath is married to the
knife, fitting it like a well worn glove.

I hope you find something you like here. If you do, let me know and I'll
be happy to make one for you....Larry

pattern at each end of the pin that runs all the way through the handle. There are
a number of different patterns available.
This 9 1/2" fillet knife is only .045"
thick and very flexible. The 8A
stainless steel blade holds an
edge well through a whole mess of
fish and needs only a couple licks
with a sharpening steel to touch it
up. Each of the knives shown has
one brass pin, one mosaic pin and
a thong hole.
Knife and sheath: $100.

6A has a multi colored laminated
hardwood handle.

and a thong hole.
Knife and sheath: $220

5A has a california buckeye handle.

that greatly enhances the edge holding properties of the blade.
I carried this style on my belt for
quite awhile and I can tell you this
blade stays
sharp. I call it the
"Osprey". It is 7 5/8" overall with a
 3 3/4"  hollow ground, super 6A
high carbon stainless steel blade

pins, thong liner and guard are all
nickel silver. The handle on this
one is birdseye  maple. Knife and
sheath: $200.
The "Raven" is a small skinner
with an overall length of 7 3/8" and
a 3 3/4" 440C stainless steel blade
with cyrogenic tempering. The butt
of the blade aft of the vent forms a
natural guard. It has two nickel
silver pins and a lined thong hole.

8A has a tulipwood handle

8B has a black laminated hardwood
handle.
The "Elk" is larger  than the knives
previously shown. It is 9 1/2"
overall with a 4 1/2" hollow ground,
cryogenically  tempered, Super 6A
high carbon stainless steel blade.
The handle is birdseye maple with
two mosaic pins.
Knife and sheath: $210.
The "Bear" is another larger,
heftier knife at 9 1/8" overall with a
4 1/2", 440C stainless steel blade.
It has a solid brass guard, two
large brass pins and a brass lined
thong hole. The handle is
laminated hardwood.

shape and superb balance. It is

with cryogenic tempering. The
handle on this one is rosewood
and the 6 pins and guard are

hole. Knife and sheath: $190.
The "Dolphin" is an unusual little
knife. It is just short of 7" overall
with a 3 1/2" X 1 1/2" hollow
ground, 440C stainless steel blade.
The handle on this one is
laminated hardwood with two
brass pins.
Knife and sheath: $135.
The "linx" is 9" overall with a 4 3/4"
blade of cryogenically tempered 6A
high carbon stainless steel blade.

colored laminated hardwood with 3
brass pins.
